Fort building is one of those creative play activities that can be done from ages 2 (with lots of help!) up to the teen years.
When my sons were little adventurers, they delighted in creating enchanted forts - whether at school, in our backyard, or right in the heart of our home. I discovered that having supplies neatly tucked away nearby sparked their imaginations, leading to frequent building sprees. Our living room often transformed into a fantastical construction zone, where sofa cushions became sturdy walls, kitchen chairs turned into towering turrets, and every sheet and blanket was draped like the finest silken canopies. Soon, the entire space beneath became a secret hideaway, where they and the neighborhood children would crawl in, bringing along their favorite toys and books, ready to embark on the grandest of adventures.
Our
Playclips are small and easy for children to use to build their own magical fort! They will clip and securely hold
Playsilks, blankets, and sheets onto tables, chairs and sofas.
Our new
Playforts are the newest addition to our fort building collection. We've heard from parents and teachers how much they love how lightweight and easy the Playfort set is to build and take apart - each Playfort set comes in its own canvas bag for easy storage! See how our friend Liz and her little ones put together and decorated their Playfort
here.
Secret play forts are magical places where childhood memories are made. Being given the autonomy to help create their own play space is incredibly meaningful for children - and with simple fort building tools like Playsilks and Playclips, it's easy for them to bring their dream play space to life!

My 3 year old loves having a fort be her quiet place to put her stuffies and dolls to sleep as she pretends to be mommy.

I would love to use the fort building kit to make a tunnel leading to the entrance of our canvas tent! A little rabbit warren for a pair of bunnies to crawl through 🤗

We love the classic couch cushion pillow and blanket fort – this would be a definite upgrade!

The dining room chairs and blankets make a great fort!

Prior to getting a play couch forts /houses were made with chairs and sheets and the occasional cardboard box. Play silks are utilized as curtains or the ‘yard’.

My children will make forts out of anything, they will fold out the couch, put chairs together, use pillows and blankets. They can get pretty elaborate. They also love when we get anything in large cardboard boxes.

My kids love to use bed sheets over frame.

I have 3 girls, we don’t have a yard yet and it’s usually really hot where we live. So when we have to play indoors when it’s raining or too hot, the girls love building forts. They use anything they can get their hands on, sheets, blankets, chairs, tables, couch, cushions, anything!
They will play for hours in the fort with their Stuffies or other toys. Their favorite thing to use is the table making it into a giant tent with tunnels and “rooms” where they “sleep” and play.
The forts can be houses, or mazes or caves or a place for hide and seek.
What I love about the fort building is that reminds me of when I was a kid and used to build giant forts that took up whole rooms with my brothers. We’d start with the top of the bunkbed and work our way around their entire room and play for hours and hours in forts. These are great memories!

My toddler loves building forts. She tends to get creative and pull anything together (sofa cushions, chairs, under the table, tunnels). She even enjoys making a stuffed animal river so she can go fishing. Haha

We love building forts, especially while on vacation. Our silks and play clips travel so easily. When combined with new cushions and blankets in our rental home, it’s pure magic. I can’t think of a better rainy day activity.
