Fort building is one of those creative play activities that can be done from ages 2 (with lots of help!) up to the teen years.
When my sons were little adventurers, they delighted in creating enchanted forts - whether at school, in our backyard, or right in the heart of our home. I discovered that having supplies neatly tucked away nearby sparked their imaginations, leading to frequent building sprees. Our living room often transformed into a fantastical construction zone, where sofa cushions became sturdy walls, kitchen chairs turned into towering turrets, and every sheet and blanket was draped like the finest silken canopies. Soon, the entire space beneath became a secret hideaway, where they and the neighborhood children would crawl in, bringing along their favorite toys and books, ready to embark on the grandest of adventures.
Our
Playclips are small and easy for children to use to build their own magical fort! They will clip and securely hold
Playsilks, blankets, and sheets onto tables, chairs and sofas.
Our new
Playforts are the newest addition to our fort building collection. We've heard from parents and teachers how much they love how lightweight and easy the Playfort set is to build and take apart - each Playfort set comes in its own canvas bag for easy storage! See how our friend Liz and her little ones put together and decorated their Playfort
here.
Secret play forts are magical places where childhood memories are made. Being given the autonomy to help create their own play space is incredibly meaningful for children - and with simple fort building tools like Playsilks and Playclips, it's easy for them to bring their dream play space to life!

My son is just getting old enough to start building and playing with forts! He loves when we make blanket tunnels, so I can’t wait to see him play with a whole fort! I loved building forts when I was little and can’t wait to do the same with my son now!

We don’t have this yet, but I picture my daughters building many castles, homes, and other buildings with these playforts. They lend themselves to lots of imaginative play!

My boys have a beautiful wood above ground fort that they are starting to really enjoy, but they also love just blanket forts in the house. It’s so fun to watch their excitement over a fun fort!

When my older children were small sometimes I would pin sheets to the ceiling in our living room to make tiny rooms. They would have their play kitchen inside with pillows and blankets everywhere. Sometimes these days we use couch cushions and dining room chairs with blankets and silks. We also have a little playstand the kids have silks on that they like to pretend is a tent.

Forts are a fave weekend activity for us, usually in our living room, usually with all my couch pillows and blankets which are way too heavy to stay alight! my kiddos use their silks as capes or as a pool of water, we haven’t tried them in fort building so love this idea!

We use our playsilks as doorways for our nugget forts.

We like to use playsilks for bedding for baby dolls and stuffed animals. My son will also put the playsilk over his head and since he can see through it, he is run around safely. His previous activity was running around with his eyes closed and the silk covering is a safer way to play.

My daughter loves to use her silks and play clips to make forts between her kids table, her small chairs and her camping chair. Then she’ll put comfy pillows and blankets underneath to create a cozy under the table fort that she can read in with. 💗

With my young daughter our forts are very simple and we just put the play silk over both of our heads and she loves it being “inside the rainbow”

My daughter loves to create forts on the couch with the blankets and pillows! She loves to hide with her toys and giggles when we pretend we can’t find her

Forts have become all the rage in our house. The funnest is when my one year old an my six year old will take all the couch cushions and make a fort. We can fit the whole family underneath. But the latest is putting their reading chair under the curtains. They are constantly looking for new ways to make their own little spaces. They don’t all look the same but the fun and giggles are.
