Green Halloween

Green Halloween

Green Halloween
"You were once a yellow pumpkin
sitting on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a Jack-o'-lantern,
let your little light shine."

Here at Sarah's Silks we love celebrating festivals! Halloween is a fun one that can be spent doing activities all month that are out in nature and nurturing for young children.

Wonderful ideas for a green, earth-friendly Halloween include pumpkin patch visits, followed by pumpkin carving and baking and eating pumpkin treats. Long walks gathering fall leaves and acorns. Baking bread, making candles, sitting by the fire, and of course, dressing up!

Playsilks are one of the best, most creative tools for making your own costume. We've seen children use them to become ghosts, witches, genies, flying machines, almost anything you can imagine can be created (with a bit of added magic) with a special colored Playsilk.

Adding Face Paint makes even more characters possible - think tiger stripes on cheeks paired with a tiger Playsilk.

Trick-or-treat baskets are another great earth-friendly way to stay away from plastics. Baskets are beautiful and will be used over and over in many ways.

  • We love Halloween 🎃✨️ this year I have a 2 year old who pretends to be a vampire at least once daily (often by wrapping himself in a Sarah’s silk) so he is going to be a vampire bat – who can resist those bat ears 🦇 and an 11month old who is going to be a pumpkin 🎃🎃 because there is little chance that she’ll allow me to dress her as a pumpkin ever again 😂

  • Our daughter is going to be a pink princess, I got a Snow White costume, and she wants my husband to be a chocolate monster 🤣

  • My children have been “trying out” different costume ideas, using their play silks and other assorted items. They’ve been fairies, pirates, chefs, mermaids, etc. we still have more than a month of mind changing, but their current selection is a lion and Belle!

  • My son wants to be a black kitty. He saw a photo of my husband dressed as a black cat when he was around my son’s age and he loved it so much, he wants to be a “black kitty like dad”.

  • My boys are wanting to be zombie cowboys, LOL! I plan to let them dress in their cowboy clothes (as they call them) and do some diy zombie makeup.

  • Our son is very in to electrical engineering at 7, he was a working circuit last year that we made from a recycled box, electrical parts we had around, and rechargeable batteries. The year before he wanted to be a 9V battery 🔋 which we made from another repurposed box and foil. This year, we are going to try to have motorized wings with the silks for a flying machine for his costume.

  • My four year old recently invented a superhero called “the Green Skeleton,” who wears a green playsilk cape with skeleton PJs and green sunglasses, and carries a green broom (who knows?!), so we’ll be going as that for Halloween. The Green Skeleton’s motto is “stop your evil ways or I’ll scare you!” :)

  • We always like combining costumes – the mushroom hat with fairy wings is a family favorite. And silk capes with unicorn horns and a sword is classic :)

  • My daughter is going to be a “black sparkle dance cat.” She has a sparkly black tutu with matching fuzzy cat ears and tail, and will wear sparkly black leggings and shirt. She says, “This is Dance Cat. She likes to dance like the wind.”

  • We usually have a few costumes for the season for play, parties and then the actual day! Right now is a cat, Taylor Swift, and a Love Queen (Queen of hearts but we say love!)

  • My son is going to be a hot wheel car with a cap and my daughter is going to be either a butterfly or Mirabel from Encanto 😊

  • My son studied ancient Egypt earlier this year and wants to be a mummy. I figured I could just buy some white fabric and it wouldn’t be too hard to make the costume. Two days after he said he wanted to be a mummy his white bed sheets got a huge rip it the wash. So we ripped them into strips. He has been using them to play vet and bandage his stuffed animals. Soon they will become a mummy costume.
